Every now and then, I enjoy an old Arabic film. I truly appreciate the talent. The tunes. The poise. The glamour. The beauty, and above all, their timelessly tasteful style. And as soon as the movie ends, a feeling of disappointment dawns upon me. I regret times past, and without pity, curse today's performers for their gruesome fashion sense, which I'll admit, to being truly shameful. All, from makeup to shoes and accessories is undoubtedly tacky. And if you're not familiar, you'd think they're playing witches.
I sincerely miss the older times' elegance. The exquisite gowns and refined skirts. I admire Sabah's strikingly flawless face, her meticulous blonde do and perfectly polished frocks. I believe that her look in 'A'al Basata' in Ahlan Bil Hob was one of her superiors. That pink number and shiny long earrings could not possibly look better.
Mariam Fakhr El Dine's innocent beauty was laudable. The fact that she wore a sexy, fitted floral dress without any vulgarity proves her reputation as one of the most beautiful females of Arabia. A fashion icon at heart, really, is Faten Hamama, whose pearls were lovely, dresses impeccable and tops charming. Her style is still imitated throughout the Middle East.
Both Leila Fawzi and Shadia held a more provocative look, which was in no way boorish. Instead, they looked sensual in those revealing outfits that were toned down with posh pearls. Souad Hussni's style was fine, too. She always appeared to be error-less and so put-together. Lets not forget Madiha Yoursry and Loubna Abdel Aziz, each one incomparable, inspired and inspiring.
I hold a portrait of my late grandmother, looking precious in a sexy LBD. Her look is finely finished off with a pair of splendid pearl earrings and a lovely matching necklace. God, she was so beautiful.
